Tomosynthesis
Tomosynthesis, recently approved by the FDA, is in some ways a hybrid between standard mammography and computed tomography. Computed tomography generates three-dimensional maps of the breast by taking X-rays at angles covering a full circle. Tomosynthesis takes digital mammograms over a narrow range of angles. It can then generate some three-dimensional information which may help make subtle details in the mammogram more visible to the radiologist.
